Black Square pendant, silver and dark wood
Black Square pendant is a cool and masculine silver pendant with wooden details in top and bottom. Wear this, and you will feel the magic of the avant-garde combined with the toughness of one of the hardest wood species in the world.
Originally Thor Høy got the inspiration for these cufflinks when he first became acquainted with met the Soviet avant-garde artist Kazimir Malevitj and his painting “Black Square”. The painting is in its simplicity a black square painted at a white canvas but at that time it was an unheard gamechanger for the whole art world. Malevitj died in 1935 and today his painting Black Square is considered a true masterpiece. It was this meeting which was a kick off for the idea to create a series of completely classic jewellery for men formed as a square.
The piece of wood that is placed both on top and below is one of the hardest wood species in the world. In Swahili, it is called Mpingo. It is also known as African Blackwood.
