Black Square signet ring, silver & dark wood
Black Square signet ring is a classic sterling silver signet ring with a twist – literally speaking. The square on the ring is slightly twisted to create a harmonious asymmetry and visual music. The wood piece is carefully fitted and goes all the way through the ring, making it more interesting and even more comfortable to wear.
Thor Høy originally got the inspiration for these cufflinks when he became acquainted with the Soviet avant-garde artist, Kazimir Malevitj, who is famous for his painting “Black Square” which – in its simplicity – represents a black square pained on a white canvas. Back then, however, it was an unprecedented game changer for the entire world of art. Malevitj died in 1935, and his painting Black Square is today considered a true masterpiece. This meeting gave birth to the idea of creating a series of classic men’s jewellery, based on the square.
The wood piece fitted in the ring belongs to the heaviest and hardest wood species in the world – in Swahili, it is called Mpingo. It is also known as African Blackwood. For Men Up North, it is crucial to take good care of our earth, and thus, we have purchased the wood from FSC-certified suppliers who get the wood from areas that stand for responsible and sustainable cutting and afforestation. Men Up North supports the non-profit organisation “Forests of the World” in their work to protect endangered rain forest areas and to ensure sustainable forestry.
Don’t expose the ring to water for a longer period of time, e.g. showering, bathing, and washing hands.
Engraving on the inside of the ring band is available on request – please contact us for further information.
Rinse in lukewarm water and soap and polish with our polishing cloth (enclosed). We do not recommend silver dip or the like, as such chemicals tend to ruin the surface.
